Hey guys! For those who are interested in publishing, Bookbuilders of Boston is hosting a bunch of events throughout May and June, including tours of production plants (which I hear from a very reliable source is a rare occurrence and something to see!). What could go better with this spring-ish Boston weather?
Bookbuilders Seminars, Tours, and Networking events

Registration is now available for Bookbuilders of Boston’s Spring Seminars and Plant Tour Events. Meet people in a smaller venue to hear ideas discussed and learn about current trends. Bring a colleague!
 
May 21 - Seminar: Best Practices in Working with Overseas Vendors. Overseas editorial, production, and manufacturing vendors can offer advantages in technical skills, cost, and scalability. Challenges include differences in time zones, cultural norms, and publishing traditions.

May 28 - Plant Tour: Courier Westford 1 & 2 color web production for 8″, 9″, and 11″ books. Paper & case binding, and environmental initiatives will be covered.

June 3 - Seminar: “How to Do A Press Check” with Sappi Paper’s Daniel Dejan. For designers, manufacturing coordinators, and production staff who want to learn about the purpose and limitations of doing an on-press job inspection.

June 11 - Seminar: Open Source Publishing - Today’s Challenge for Tomorrow’s Publishers. Free content? Reader participation in authorship? Collaborative authorship, Experience of the scientific community. Experimental approaches. Strategies to ensure content is protected and paid for.

June 17 - Plant Tour: Quebecor World Taunton 4-color web printing and binding 9″, 10″ & 11″ books. CIP capabilities and closed loop color control systems, paper & case binding.

Seminars will be held at Pearson Education, Sixth Floor, 75 Arlington St. Boston MA 02116 7:00 p.m. (Note you will need to preregister and present a photo ID with building security on the first floor for access.)

Plant tours will depart from Park Plaza at 8:30 a.m. and will return around 1:30 p.m.

Registration Fees for both tours and seminars are $25 for members & non-members, $10 students with current I.D. Advance registration required 24 hours before the event. For more information or registration or go to www.bbboston.org .
