Mark your calendars for a whale of a good time!

December 15th, 2009 by Katherine

In 2010 get out to the New Bedford Whaling Museum for their 14th annual Moby Dick marathon! The nonstop reading of the literary leviathan (yes, I went there) begins at noon on January 9.  Details here.

Gosh, you may be thinking, that’s a long way away.  And that is why I  recommend you make whatever arrangements you find necessary to ensure your attendance now, instead of waiting three weeks. Come back from break early. Rent a car. Book your flight. Cancel that dinner date. Record that syndicated episode of House. It can wait. The whale cannot. This is an amazing opportunity to share with a community of strangers your fathomless appreciation for 19th century American lit. Or the great American novel. Or madness. I’m going to straight up beg you, whoever you may be, to go because I cannot. And get back to Vernacular on it! We want to hear all about the strangeness.

New Bedford is an hour south by car.  There is also a bus. No trains, though. Sry.
