More On Plagiarism?

June 18th, 2009 1 Comment

This week has apparently been a big one for literature and suing. This instance concerns The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger and 60 Years Later: Coming Through the Rye by a guy calling himself John David (J.D.) California. I say calling himself because his real name is Frederik Colting. California’s book concerns a [...]

Rowling’s U.K. publisher), claiming that the fourth Potter book, Goblet of Fire, substantially rips off parts of one of Jacobs’ books, The Adventures of Willy the Wizard — No 1 Livid Land.

Imagining Nonfiction

February 10th, 2009 1 Comment

And Now for Something Completely Different…

February 8th, 2009 No Comments

In the past year or two, I’ve all but abandoned fiction writing. The last genuine attempt was that ill-fated stab at a novel a couple summers ago, before I realized that I actually didn’t want to write a novel and, come to think of it, probably never did. On Re-reading

October 10th, 2008 No Comments

Anyone who’s been an undergrad will be familiar, I’m sure, with that breath-caught-in-your-throat moment, upon skimming a syllabus for the first time, when you realize that you’re being asked to read something you’ve read once before. Often the text will be considered some “key” or “classic” statement of theory for whatever discipline you’re in — [...]

Book Review: Then We Came to the End

July 15th, 2008 No Comments

I’ve been working a lot of overtime the past couple of weeks, hunching over my computer in my stuffy, windowless cubicle, squinting at my computer monitor as I meticulously cut and paste and format and reformat table after table. Whoever said a career in publishing was glamorous? One of the only things that kept me [...]

This Week in Boston Publishing and Writing…

May 12th, 2008 No Comments

It’s been an exciting week for the graduate WLP department at Emerson! The end of the semester, end of the year party– everyone holding finals as per the Registrar’s demands– so many drinks to buy, so little time. Speaking of drinks, here’s a freelance writing opportunity from a former Publishing and Writing student Abby Bielagus, [...]
